Introduces First of Its Kind Global Water Export Solution Amid Rising Water Security Concerns in the Middle East

Brevik, Norway – Fresh Water Norway AS today announced the launch of a pioneering global water export solution, as growing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East raise concerns about the stability of critical water infrastructure across the region.
The ongoing war in the Middle East has intensified fears around the vulnerability of desalination plants in the Persian Gulf states-facilities that millions depend on for daily drinking water. With freshwater security increasingly at risk, the need for alternative, reliable supply solutions has become more urgent than ever.
In response, Fresh Water Norway AS has commissioned a new high-capacity filling station at its Brevik facility, enabling the loading of 20-foot containers with 24,000-litre flexitanks. This marks the first solution of its kind worldwide, allowing potable water to be transported efficiently and at scale using standard global shipping networks.
Fresh Water Norway AS has already secured a commercial agreement with Google’s new data centre in Skien, Norway, demonstrating the viability and reliability of its supply system in supporting critical infrastructure. Delivery started in March 2026 and about 250,000 litres have been delivered so far.
With access to approximately one billion litres of drinking water annually, the company is uniquely positioned to supply large volumes of high-quality freshwater from Norway’s abundant natural resources to regions facing acute shortages.
“This solution is designed with global resilience in mind,” said a spokesperson for Fresh Water Norway AS. “As water security becomes increasingly linked to geopolitical stability, we believe transportable bulk water can play a critical role in supporting vulnerable regions, including parts of the Middle East.”
The company’s innovative logistics model enables, in theory, thousands of containers filled with potable water to be shipped to cities experiencing supply disruptions - whether due to conflict, infrastructure failure, or long-term scarcity.
Beyond emergency and geopolitical applications, the flexitank solution offers wide-ranging benefits, including:
Supplementary water supply for water-scarce countries
Emergency reserves for municipalities and civil protection agencies
Agricultural support in drought-affected regions
Strategic backup for critical infrastructure
The initiative also highlights a broader global imbalance: while Nordic countries possess significant freshwater surplus, many other regions-including the Middle East-face increasing deficits driven by climate change, population growth, and dependency on energy-intensive desalination.
Fresh Water Norway AS aims to bridge this gap by transforming surplus into a globally deployable resource, contributing to improved water security and resilience worldwide.
